"I am here 1" 2020, Installation, Fine art print, 40 x 60 cm

The Hole project is about a mortar shell falling 97 steps away from our house during the Operation Peace Spring launched by Turkey in October 2019 in the east of the Euphrates to create a safe zone. A series of serial productions were made based on the concept of fragility, starting from the fact that the mortar fell on an empty land and the place where it fell was a soil wet from the rain that had fallen the previous day and thus the mortar did not explode. This current issue constitutes the most concrete example of the precariousness we are experiencing. While the word home represents a safe space, the mortar shell falling close to the house has made these concepts fragile. The fact that people living in the border region feel precarious shows that they are always vulnerable. An unidentified mortar shell or an accidental bullet can condemn people living there to live in a constant state of fear.
